Shawat

Liner note.

Shawat is a small village in eastern Afghanistan, near the Pakistani border. It sits along one side of a mountain valley with a creek below it, where children hold elementary school classes. A road runs just above the creek bed. A lot of American soldiers have been hurt on that road, and old Russian tanks are still rusting along the side of it. Adam sent Mick a video of the place before the vocal was recorded. Mick approached it as a kind of prayer for peace — not a kumbaya one, more the uneasy space between two peoples who don't really know the other's intentions. Mostly a prayer that a bomb doesn't go off.
