Album story.
Most of Payne Co. was made in 2026, but some of it had been waiting much longer. Ideas for many of the lyrics started in notebooks from 2004 and 2005, then spent the better part of twenty years in an attic before being pulled back out and put to work.
The record reconnects Adam Headrick, Jason Presley, Michael Tuminello and John McCann, who played together in Prankstar in the early 2000s, with Ryan Webber, Brad Hardy, Brooke Blizzard, Jason Taylor and John Dawson joining across the album.

Backward Collective is an Oklahoma-rooted recording project built around long musical friendships and a catalog that stretches back to 2006. Payne Co. brings together Adam Headrick, Jason Presley, Michael Tuminello, John McCann and a wider circle of collaborators for thirteen songs shaped by old notebooks, new sessions and recordings made between Oklahoma and Philadelphia. The album moves through rock, country, folk and left-field studio textures without treating any one style as home base.
